Have you not seen those who have been given a portion of the Scripture? They are being invited to the Book of Allâh to settle their dispute, then a party of them turn away, and they are averse.

And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away – behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.

بھلا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جن کو کتاب (خدا یعنی تورات سے) بہرہ دیا گیا اور وہ (اس) کتاب الله کی طرف بلائے جاتے ہیں تاکہ وہ (ان کے تنازعات کا) ان میں فیصلہ کر دے تو ایک فریق ان میں سے کج ادائی کے ساتھ منہ پھیر لیتا ہے

يقول تعالى منكرا على اليهود والنصارى المتمسكين فيما يزعمون بكتابيهم اللذين بأيديهم وهما التوراة والإنجيل وإذا دعوا إلى التحاكم إلى ما فيهما من طاعة الله فيما أمرهم به فيهما من اتباع محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم تولوا وهم معرضون عنهما وهذا في غاية ما يكون من ذمهم والتنويه بذكرهم بالمخالفة والعناد.

يخبر تعالى عن حال أهل الكتاب الذين أنعم الله عليهم بكتابه، فكان يجب أن يكونوا أقوم الناس به وأسرعهم انقيادا لأحكامه، فأخبر الله عنهم أنهم إذا دعوا إلى حكم الكتاب تولى فريق منهم وهم يعرضون، تولوا بأبدانهم، وأعرضوا بقلوبهم، وهذا غاية الذم، وفي ضمنها التحذير لنا أن نفعل كفعلهم، فيصيبنا من الذم والعقاب ما أصابهم، بل الواجب على كل أحد إذا دعي إلى كتاب الله أن يسمع ويطيع وينقاد، كما قال تعالى { إنما كان قول المؤمنين إذا دعوا إلى الله ورسوله ليحكم بينهم أن يقولوا سمعنا وأطعنا }

أرأيت -أيها الرسول- أعجب من حال هؤلاء اليهود الذين أتاهم الله حظا من الكتاب فعلموا أن ما جئت به هو الحق، يُدْعون إلى ما جاء في كتاب الله -وهو القرآن- ليفصل بينهم فيما اختلفوا فيه، فإن لم يوافق أهواءهم يَأْبَ كثير منهم حكم الله؛ لأن من عادتهم الإعراض عن الحق؟

Chastising the People of the Book for Not Referring to the Book of Allah for Judgment Allah criticizes the Jews and Christians who claim to follow their Books, the Tawrah and the Injil, because when they are called to refer to these Books where Allah commanded them to follow Muhammad , they turn away with aversion. This censure and criticism from Allah was all because of their defiance and rejection. Allah said next, ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُواْ لَن تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلاَ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَتٍ (This is because they say: "The Fire shall not touch us but for a number of days.") meaning, what made them dare to challenge and defy the truth is their false claim that Allah will only punish them for seven days in the Fire, a day for every one thousand years in this life. We mentioned this subject in the Tafsir of Surat Al-Baqarah. Allah then said, وَغَرَّهُمْ فِى دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَ (And that which they used to invent regarding their religion has deceived them.) meaning, what caused them to remain on their false creed is that they deceived themselves, believing that the Fire will only touch them for a few days for their errors. However, it is they who have invented this notion, and Allah did not grant them authority to support this claim. Allah said, while threatening and warning them, فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَـهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لاَّ رَيْبَ فِيهِ (How (will it be) when We gather them together on the Day about which there is no doubt (i. e. the Day of Resurrection).) meaning, what will their condition be like after they have uttered this lie about Allah, rejected His Messengers and killed His Prophets and their scholars who enjoined righteousness and forbade evil Allah will ask them about all this and punish them for what they have done. This is why Allah said, فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَـهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لاَّ رَيْبَ فِيهِ (How (will it be) when We gather them together on the Day about which there is no doubt.) meaning, there is no doubt that this Day will come, وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لاَ يُظْلَمُونَ (And each person will be paid in full what he has earned And they will not be dealt with unjustly.).

جھوٹے دعوے یہاں اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے کہ یہ یہود و نصاریٰ اپنے اس دعوے میں بھی جھوٹے ہیں کہ ان کا توراۃ و انجیل پر ایمان ہے کیونکہ ان کتابوں کی ہدایت کے مطابق جب انہیں اس نبی آخرالزمان کی اطاعت کی طرف بلایا جاتا ہے تو یہ منہ پھیر کے بھاگتے دکھائی دیتے ہیں، اس سے ان کی اعلیٰ درجہ کی سرکشی تکبر اور عناد و مخالفت ظاہر ہو رہی ہے، اس مخالفت حق اور بےجا سرکشی پر انہیں اس چیز نے دلیر کردیا ہے کہ انہوں نے اللہ کی کتاب میں نہ ہونے کے باوجود اپنی طرف سے جھوٹ بنا کر کے یہ بات بنا لی ہے کہ ہم تو صرف چند روز ہی آگ میں رہیں گے یعنی فقط سات روز، دنیا کے حساب کے ہر ہزار سال کے پیچھے ایک دن، اس کی پوری تفسیر سورة بقرہ میں گذر چکی ہے، اسی واہی اور بےسروپا خیال نے انہیں باطل دین پر انہیں جما دیا ہے بلکہ یہ خود اللہ نے ایسی بات نہیں کہی ان کا خیال ہے نہ اس کی کوئی کتابی دلیل ان کے پاس ہے، پھر اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ انہیں ڈانٹتا اور دھمکاتا ہے اور فرماتا ہے ان کا قیامت والے دن بدتر حال ہوگا ؟ کہ انہوں نے اللہ پر جھوٹ باندھا رسولوں کو جھٹلایا انبیاء کو اور علماء حق کو قتل کیا، ایک ایک بات کا اللہ کو جواب دینا پڑے گا اور ایک ایک گناہ کی سزا بھگتنی پڑے گی، اس دن کے آنے میں کوئی شک و شبہ نہیں اس دن ہر شخص پورا پورا بدلہ دیا جائے گا اور کسی پر بھی کسی طرح کا ظلم روانہ رکھا جائے گا۔
